Details of the connection between the Long Haul tractor and trailers. Josiah Carberry Collection.

The Long Haul is a model of a tractor cab, first issued in 1979 in the 900 series as TP-22, TP23, TP24 & TP25, each with an articulated trailer unit. Articulated trucks with removable cabs had previously been issued in the 1-75 Series and had also been released in the Accesory Packs, Major Packs, King Size and Super Kings ranges, but the Long Haul may be the first Matchbox tractor cab which was intended to function both with and without a trailer, and to be swapped among multiple trailers.

Long Haul is a two-axle tractor which most often appeared in red, but green versions were made, as was an even rarer yellow version. The truck features a T shaped slot as its trailer hitch.

The model was intended to be marketed as a Peterbilt and pre-production examples have the name moulded on them, however permission to use the name was not given the model was produced with Long Haul on the base.[1]

When the Matchbox 900 series tractor/trailer units were replaced by the Convoy range in 1982 the Long Haul tractor was discontinued.[1]
