The Matchbox Mercede-Benz Binz Ambulance represents a Binz ambulance on a Mercedes-Benz chassis. This was a common arrangement at the time; most Binz ambulances have used Mercedes chassis, with recent Binz ambulances typically using the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vans as their basis.^[1]

The model's tailgate opens upward, allowing insertion and removal of the easily-lost patient on a stretcher. Originally released with regular wheels, the model made the transition to Superfast wheels in 1970.^[2]

The casting was revised with the original realistic eliptical wheel arch openings rounded off to accomodate the Superfast wheels, and later revised again with the wheel arches enlarged further for the wide Superfast wheels. At some point the Mercedes-Benz hood ornament was also deleted from the top of the grille casting, the opening rear tailgate became cast closed, the headlights became part of the body casting instead of part of the base casting, and the model number was removed from the base casting.
