The Plymouth Gran Fury is a full-sized, four-door sedan with attached lightbar, issued in several police liveries, including a special edition for the Adam-12 television program. This car is based on the real-life first-generation Plymouth of the same name.
Casting[]
The Plymouth Gran Fury casting appears with and without door outlines and door handles. The version without outlines and handles appeared alongside the version with the outlines, and only seems to have appeared on the Macau base. Both the earliest versions of the car (made in England) and the last (the special edition Adam-12 release) have the outlines.
Similar to the beacons of some earlier Matchbox emergency vehicles, and the later-released Ford LTD Police, the Gran Fury's lightbar is sandwiched between the plastic used for the window glazing and the metal of the body casting. This allows the lightbar to be a different color than the windows, but protects the lightbar from detachment during hard play.
This model is a diecast replica of the 1977 Plymouth Gran Fury, one of 4 key Chrysler Corporation vehicles favoured by police forces in the US back in 1977, besides the mid-sized Plymouth Fury, and it's sister ship the '77 Dodge Monaco and the Gran Fury's sister ship, the 1977 Dodge Royal Monaco which is also a large-body sedan like the Gran Fury.
